The fabrication and assembly of medical devices and component involves molding, ultrasonic welding, deburring, gluing, fastening and final assembly to name a few. These steps involve human handling, but there has been a greater emphasis on automation and integration. Whether manual or automated, static and particles remain an issue. Plastic parts, silicone tubing, packaging materials and people in the clean room creates debris. The Zapp Plus with the Particle Trap 6000 provides static and particle solutions at the assembly level.

CRITICAL ENVIRONMENTS


Most medical device manufacturing is done in a controlled environment. The first assumption by many is that ionization or source capturing products are not required because the room is clean. The clean room uses laminar flow air, which is a system of circulating filtered air in parallel-flowing planes to reduce the risk of airborne contamination. The second assumption is that the particles will stay entrained in that air flow. The electrostatic forces on plastic parts have the ability to pull particles out of the air flow onto the process. Using ionization will control static and also keep the particles moving in the right direction.

CLEAN SOLUTION PRODUCTS

  • The MAC 10® IQ is the world’s first smart fan filter unit. With its microcomputer-controlled EC motor, the MAC 10® IQ dynamically adjusts itself to maintain the set airflow, compensating for changes in static pressure, filter loading, or other local conditions. Unlike conventional induction motors, the EC motor regulates itself, automatically adjusting the torque and speed to provide a constant air volume of 250-660 CFM over a wide range of static presssure. The MAC 10® IQ maintains airflow at such a constant rate that the need for future balancing is greatly reduced.

  • The MAC 10® LEDC features the most control options and the most versatile control system available on the market today, while topping the industry in energy efficiency. The MAC 10 LEDC comes standard with the filter integral with the unit housing. Roomside replaceable filters, motor/blower, and now controls are available.

  • The MAC 10® Original fan filter unit (FFU) was the first to combine low sound, lower watts, and a low profile. The MAC 10® Original Standard provides one of the lowest sound levels of any FFU in the industry measuring at 51 dBA. The Original runs at only 310 watts at 90 FPM and uses less energy than older, traditional fan filter units which lowers operating costs.
    The MAC 10® Original does all this while maintaining a low profile, measuring less than 13” (330 mm).

  • The Medical Cleaning System (MCS) is an excellent contamination control tool designed to improve yields by reducing rework. The flush mounted Vacuum Hood, which incorporates shockless static control bars and stainless steel compressed air tubes, removes dirt particles.  The particles are then conveyed to a filtered dust collector. No more blowing particulate around the cleanroom or manufacturing environment causing re-contamination.  Recontamination occurs when using air guns, nozzles and other air devices that do not provide a means of source capturing of the dislodged contamination.
